About Us

Our Story

Welcome to Overlook Mountain Labradors. We’re Mark and Gina Rothe, and we’ve dedicated years of hard work to preserving and improving the Labrador Retriever breed. Nestled on 158 acres in the Catskill Mountains of New York, our home is not just where we live—it’s where we raise, train and love our dogs.

Overlook began as a passion project, driven by our deep appreciation for Labradors’ intelligence, temperament and versatility. From the very start, we set out to breed exceptional Labradors—dogs that are as sound in temperament as they are in structure. Over the years, our dedication has placed Overlook Mountain Labradors among the top Labrador Retriever breeders in the world, with our dogs excelling in service work, therapy, hunting and show rings worldwide.

As a small, private hobby breeder, we carefully plan one to three litters per year, ensuring each puppy gets the individualized attention they deserve. Many stay with us for extended evaluation before we carefully select the right homes in which to place them. Every breeding decision we make is guided by a singular goal. This goal is to uphold the Labrador’s hallmark traits—unshakable temperament, exceptional health and striking good looks.

Our Labrador Retrievers are not just pets or competitors, they are family members, partners and companions. Our bloodlines have made an impact across the globe. We take great pride in knowing that our Labradors have changed lives—from in the show ring, to the field and as devoted service and therapy dogs.

Our Team

Raising Labrador Retrievers is central to our life at Overlook. Our family of three raises every litter with hands-on care, training and socialization.

We are involved in every step of the journey. This is true from the breeding, whelping and early development, to training and final placement. Our commitment to ethical breeding, mentorship, and responsible Labrador ownership guides everything we do.

Every puppy is raised with love, structure and purpose. From birth, our dogs are exposed to different environments, sounds and social situations. This helps them to grow into confident, well-balanced companions. We raise and prepare puppies to thrive—from service dogs, competitive champions, hunting partners to beloved family pets.

We don’t breed for quantity—we breed for quality. Every Overlook Labrador embodies the best of the breed and this is true in form and function. We take immense pride in the legacy of Overlook Mountain Labradors.

We have designed our facility with health, comfort and enrichment in mind. These essential aspects ensure every dog has the best possible environment to develop:

  1. Spacious, climate-controlled living areas for safety and comfort.
  2. Large exercise areas where our dogs can run, explore and play.
  3. Specialized training spaces to introduce our puppies to new experiences and challenges.
